16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
SAVVY: The virtuous wife is thrifty but also willing to make shrewd investments. She reinvests her profits into long-term opportunities (like vineyards) that produce benefit year after year.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
HARDWORKING: Work is not only the means to security and prosperity; it’s also a way of demonstrating her devotion to her family. As such, she embraces each day with enthusiasm. Her work actually makes her stronger; which, in turn, makes her even more productive.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
DRIVEN: She’s energized by her wise investments and stays up late considering new and better ways to build wealth. This woman has dedication and business acumen of any man.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
INDUSTRIOUS: This proverb describes aspects of the spinning wheel and the loom. The virtuous wife is skillful and industrious, weaving fabric to clothe her family or to sell for profit.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
COMPASSIONATE: She understands that the creation of wealth should not only bless her family but the poor and needy as well. The virtuous woman is not just generous, but compassionate.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
PREPARED: Throughout the year, she prepares for winter so that her household may be well fed and warmly clothed. She faces difficult seasons with confidence.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, you have ordained the pattern for healthy families.
Let me embrace my role and responsibilities with enthusiasm and joy today.
